FAQ

Dry Needling

What are the causes?

Dry needling is a skilled technique performed by a physical therapist using a thin, sterile monofilament needle. The needle will  penetrate the skin and/or underlying tissues to improve restrictions and functions for the management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions, pain, or movement impairments.  The underlying causative factors range from recent injuries to long-term conditions.  Most often, dry needling is combined with other therapeutic procedures/exercise to provide you the best outcome.

What are the symptoms?

Dry Needling has been shown to benefit a large variety of musculoskeletal conditions.  Some of the conditions/symptoms appropriate for dry needling include:

  • Muscle Spasms
  • Stiffness in joints and muscles
  • Sprains/Strains
  • Chronic and acute pain
  • Tendinitis
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Scar tissue and soft tissue restrictions
  • Movement dysfunctions
What can I expect in PT?

Our physical therapists will perform a thorough evaluation and if appropriate, incorporate dry needling into your treatment program.  Dry needling is a very effective way to assist in progressing your treatment goals.  Some insurances do not cover dry needling but your therapist will address these issues before any treatment services are rendered.
